Hi Everyone, I’m Karen!
(Founder of Spain Less Traveled)
With over 20 years in the professional travel industry, I am a travel agent and travel advisor who specializes in Spain.
But it all started when I was a kid. I couldn’t wait to tear through the Sunday newspaper, every week, looking for the travel section to devour!
At 15 I decided it was time for my first big trip. Being a budding travel planner, I researched, planned, and booked an overseas trip to Spain & France for my entire family. As this was way before internet-based travel booking existed, imagine the undertaking this was, but I understood trip planning even then.
My first overseas trip was memorable as well as a turning point, it confirmed my love for travel, sparked my passion for more travel and that’s when I decided that I wanted a career in travel “when I grew up.” The very next summer, at 16, I planned my first solo backpacking trip through Europe and have not stopped traveling and travel planning ever since.
My personal travels have taken me to over 60 countries across six continents in a variety of travel styles from adventure backpacking, budget travel, packaged tours, luxury travel, and solo globetrotting.
Some of my favorite countries, aside from Spain, are Italy, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Myanmar, Peru, Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Colombia (and so many more, it’s hard to list just a few!)
From beautiful California, I now call Andalucía, Spain home, where I live, work, and breathe all things Spain.
Travel industry expertise
I have a proven track record in the travel industry, as a professional with a career spanning 20 years in the industry (childhood dreams do come true).
Throughout my career, worked for large, internationally-renowned travel companies and brands such as STA Travel and Airbnb.
I’ve done it all in the travel industry, from sales and booking to customer service to personalized travel planning. Furthermore, I’ve built relationships with local tour guides, hotels, Airbnb/guesthouse hosts, sustainable tour companies other travel industry professionals who provide localized unique experiences all over Spain (and the world).
In 2017 I took my first big leap, left my corporate travel job, and started my first travel brand, Solo World Wander. This was my first business venture, an international travel consultation service to help make my clients’ travel dreams come true.
Then, In 2019 I rebranded to Spain Less Traveled and founded the Travel Spain! community.
Through Spain Less Traveled, a boutique travel service, I work personally and individually with my clients to design a unique Spain travel itinerary just for them based on their timeframe, interests, preferences, travel style and budget.
The services offered range from travel consultations to fully handcrafted itineraries all focused on discovering authentic Spain through its art, architecture, culture, history, and gastronomy.

This is a question that I hear almost every day since I’ve traveled so extensively and have worked in the industry for so many years.
Spain captivates me. And it will captivate you too.
No matter how much of it I see, I am constantly enchanted with everything Spain has to offer.
Andalucía is where it all began. From the first time I wandered the streets of Granada, my love for Spain was ignited. There is nothing like walking down small cobblestones streets in the Albayzín, passing by intricate tile work, and looking up and seeing the Alhambra with the backdrop of the snowy Sierra Nevada. Then there are the deep blue skies, Spain’s famous sunshine, taking it all in at a chill outdoor terrace bar.
Spain kept calling me back, and I followed the call eventually exploring Andalucía as well as the entire country in depth.
Travelers rave about Spanish culture & the warm and outgoing people of Spain. And it is all true. Spain is also affordable, safe, easy to get around, with incredible food, making it an ideal travel destination. There’s something for everyone from beaches to nature to delicious regional cuisines to bigger cities and smaller pueblos, plus a variety of architecture, cultural sites, museums, and so much more.
After several years of going back and forth between Spain and California, I finally decided to uproot my life and make Spain’s home. After a few years of living in Madrid, I now call Andalucía (the south, which was my first Spain love) home.
I still continue to explore the hidden gems and less traveled parts of Spain as well as return to my favorite places so that I have even more personal insights for my clients.
